What do you buy the mother who has everything for her 60th Birthday? Well in my case it was a weekend trip to Iceland. My passion for travel has undoubtedly come from my parents and all the adventures they have taken my brother and I on growing up. Trying to find a suitable weekend trip for her somewhere she hadn’t been before was kind of hard going, plus we needed a destination suitable for a pregnant constantly hungry woman such as myself. In the end we settled on 48 hours in Iceland as it is totally do able for a weekend from the UK. We had the added advantage that my brother had already been 10 years ago and could remember his original itinerary for all the attractions. Here is My 48 hours in Iceland Video Blog:
So 48 Hours in Iceland: Here is where are adventure took us!
Day 1: The Golden Circle (Self drive) estimated time 8 hour day
Kerið Crater Lake
Day2: Coastal route (self drive) 12 hours including the Blue lagoon
Black Beach at Vik
The only thing I would give consideration of for any visit is that Iceland can be very expensive. For example 4 small sized chocolate bars cost up 12 pounds, Yikes! Flights from the UK are relatively cheap between 50-120 pounds return with Icelandic Air (from Manchester Airport). Accommodation on the other hand is expensive too. We stayed at 41 – A town house Hotel and had a studio room https://www.41hotel.is/ this came in at 280 pounds a night.
Even though we missed an opportunity to watch the Northern lights (it was overcast everyday) it was still a magical weekend and the landscape in Iceland is truly breath taking.
